This Privacy Policy describes how What's Happening Events ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our services: the What's Happening Events website and web application (whatshappeningevents.com and app.whatshappeningevents.com), community calendars we power — including on our customers' own domains and city brands such as What's Happening Baltimore — and the What's Happening mobile applications for iOS and Android (together, the "Services").
When an organization member creates an account or signs in, we collect an email address, first and last name, and a password. Passwords are stored only as salted bcrypt hashes — we never store your password in plain text. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier, name, email address, and profile photo URL from Google instead of a password.
When you submit an event to a public calendar without an account, we collect the contact details you provide: your name, email address, optionally a phone number, and any organization name, website, or description you include. This information is used by the calendar's administrators to review your submission and contact you about it, and is retained so administrators can recognize repeat submitters.
Events, images, organization profiles, and other content you create through the Services are stored by us. Published events (including titles, descriptions, dates, venues, host names, images, and ticket links) are public and are visible to anyone through calendars, embeds, our mobile apps, and our API.
The web application stores authentication tokens and your currently selected organization in your browser's local storage. The mobile apps store authentication tokens in your device's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). PostHog sets its own cookies or local-storage entries in the publisher web application. We do not use advertising cookies.
The What's Happening mobile apps let anyone browse published events without an account, and let organization members sign in to manage their events. The apps collect only the sign-in credentials you enter (sent securely to our servers) and the standard request data described above. The apps do not access your location, contacts, camera, photos, or microphone, and contain no advertising.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
We share information only as needed to run the Services:
We retain account information for as long as your account exists. Event content remains until the organization or an administrator deletes it. Sign-in, verification, and analytics records are retained to maintain security and provide statistics. You may request deletion at any time as described below.
You may access and update your account information in the app's settings. You may request a copy of your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and associated personal information by emailing support@whatshappeningevents.com from the email address on the account. We will act on verified requests within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority; we honor such requests as required by the law that applies to you.
All traffic to the Services is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. Mobile sign-in tokens are kept in the operating system's secure storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices.
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date above. Material changes will be communicated through the Services or by email.
